NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Guardian Life Insurance Company of America (Guardian), one of the nation’s oldest and largest mutual life insurers, today announced that its Board of Directors has approved payment of $805 million in dividends to the company’s individual life policyholders in 2013. The allocation is the largest-ever distribution to Guardian’s participating policyholders.
In addition, the Dividend Interest Rate, which is the investment component of the dividend, will be 6.65% in 2013, a very competitive dividend interest rate in a period of historically low interest rates, the company reported.
“As a mutual life insurance company, for more than 150 years we’ve managed our company in the best interests of our owners – people who actually own our participating life policies,” said Deanna M. Mulligan, Guardian’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “As a result, we’re able to fully align our interests with those of our policyholders and stay focused on the long term.
“Guardian’s core mission is to remain financially strong so the company can pay its participating policyholders a competitive dividend. At a time of continued economic uncertainty, we are pleased that we continue to fulfill that important obligation to our owners,” she added.
